Essentials

The important points of a properly designed interface are:

The interface must be eye catching and should be designed to draw the user beyond the first or second page. This can be achieved through interactive graphics, multimedia and appropriate video. The interface design must be appropriate to the venue and audience. A kiosk in a school will require a completely different design to one in a nightclub for example

The interface must have a structured and carefully defined menu system that can take the user within 3 clicks to the correct content or part of a website. Buttons and menu options should be big and bold and invite the user to use them, making the interface as interactive as possible. Content on the interface must be visually appealing but must where possible fit onto one screen. Iit is very rare for users to scroll for menu options!

Video and sounds should be used sparingly. Whilst the reception staff by the kiosk may find a video amusing the first time, after 50+ uses they may begin to loose their enthusiasm!

The interface should not only be relevant to the kiosk venue, but also provide links or personalisation to the venue so that they will be encouraged to adopt and improve the system

However the most important essential rule is that the interface must be updated regularly. The design and the content must be continually reviewed and modified if it is to achieve repeat visits. This can be complimented by the incorporation of live feeds (such as from the BBC news website) or indeed the integration of content management so that the client or venue can quickly add news and events to the front page. Wherever possible we will empower you to make these changes to ensure further invoicing is not required.
